Hello Denis,

Thank you for the kind words.

The possibility of coming to the East has been discussed a couple times around here. We would need to both have a good location and enough people signed up to make it possible. We remain open to the idea.

Take care, Mike

That was one of the best photo tutorials I've seen on the web. Now if you'd only teach classes in the Northeast

Mike thank you for the information, just what I was looking for. I sent the post twice as I wasn't sure the first one went through.

Hi Bill,

It sort of depends which brand one is getting. We still have the Auriou and TBT (The Best Things) hand-stitched rasps we began with (or subsequently purchased in the case of the TBT brand). Same with the Nicholson #50 rasps. (This is because we can acid sharpen them.)

However, they seem to play musical benches and so I seldom know which specific grain/brand I might be using at a given moment--I tend to look at the teeth and select one at this point. For the back saw classes up at Tolpin's school, I recommend these three:

6-200-10-AU ($84.95)
6-200-14-AU ($89.95)
Nicholson #50 ($44.99)

The prices above are reflective of those on The Best Things web site:
http://www.thebestthings.com/newtools/hand_cut_french_cabinet_rasps.htm

The Nicholson price is decent, but can be had elsewhere or on sale for less.

Take care, Mike
